did anyone watch the latest episode of the gilmore girls? it was hilarious! further proof that GG is now only worth watching for the side characters because the writers have turned brilliant, nerdy outsider rory into a stupid girl who desperately needs everyone to like her, and independent, kick-ass lorelei into a passive-aggressive twit with man issues.
in this epi, lane kim, the korean-american character, gets married. she has two ceremonies; one that’s traditional korean for the sake of her devoutly buddhist grandmother and a second in a church when her grandmother leaves because mrs. kim is devoutly christian and has hidden that fact from granny. anyway, i was cracking up when the guests started making a mad dash to the chapel, prompting lorelei to ask what’s the hurry and rory replies, “because there’re 58 seats and 62 koreans.” lorelei immediately gets what that means and quickly joins the stampede all panicked.
after the ceremony, the 62 koreans bum rush the buffet, pack up their styrofoam take-out containers and dutifully drop their cash gifts in the money bag before they hightail it out of there. amy sherman-palladino must’ve been to a ton of korean weddings because even in its exaggeration, that scene was dead-on accurate.
oh, and mrs. kim’s wedding night talk with lane: “you’re going to have to do it, just like i did. but luckily i only had to do it once.” omg, can you imagine if your korean mom uttered those words to you?
at the reception, lorelei got drunk and made a fool out of herself in front of everyone and then it wasn’t funny anymore. it was just pathetic and sad. damn you, amy sherman-palladino for doing this to lorelei!

i haven’t watched Gilmore Girls for a while now so I’m surprised to learn about lane got married. I can picture that wedding scene thanks to you. And that mother-daughter talk takes the prize.

i found the exact quote: “Lane… you’re going to have to DO IT with this boy!! Maybe, if you’re lucky like I was, you’ll only have to do it once.” all you moms, write this down so you can repeat it verbatim to your daughters.
