the answer:

hasbro is retarded
i couldn’t access scrabulous today. first it said, “The site is taking a coffee break. Sorry for the inconvenience.” then later, the site redirected to godaddy.com and had pictures of that american race driver chick. i thought, “that’s weird. the site must have a temporary glitch.” now i found out that the stoopid hasbro company made the creators change the name. according to the telegraph (kolkata):
Delhi High Court has ruled that Calcutta-based Rajat, 27, and Jayant, 22, will retain the right to post their word game online, but will not be allowed to use Scrabulous, Scrabble or any other “similar sounding” name.
…
The creators of Scrabulous, the Agarwalla brothers of RJ Software on VIP Road, have in effect won the copyright but lost the trademark battle. “The high court held that no one had any copyright on the board game as it was an expression of an idea,” said advocate Sushant M. Singh.
hence www.scrabulous.com was shut down and the bros had to come up with a new site. some of the contenders on the short list were:
www.hasbro-can-fuck-off-ulous.com
www.hasbro-sucks-major-ass-ulous.com
www.hasbro-is-retarded-ulous.com
before they decided on: lexulous.com.
lexulous is only in the solitaire version for now but a message from rajat and jayant says that the live and email versions will be ready before this sunday. i’m glad they got to keep the rights to the game format. that’s one small step for the argawalla brothers, and one giant leap for the little guys who don’t back down from retarded corporate bullies. yay!
but i wonder…does that mean i lose my scrabulous ranking?? (i was at 2044!)
UPDATE: lexulous.com is now up and running. you can log in with your original login email AND it keeps your former scrabulous rating. however, some of the room names have changed.

Hey Susanp
Thanks for the useful info.
Yes–’fix’ is the right word
I wish somebody would post up news on the GO DADDY page to tell everyone to go to LEXULOUS
suddenly susan // September 27, 2008 at 10:22 am |
you’re welcome., gerry. last night, i played my first game on lexulous for my “fix” and very few people were signed in. you’re right, they should have a message on scrabulous.com with a link to the new site. as of this morning, it says, “The site is taking a coffee break. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
lexulous needs more players! spread the word~~

Wow, after the original panic of not finding the site, I am glad I found out about the new name, could it be possible that is down now? the only place I can seem to access is the practice one.
Oh well, at least I can get my fix
fraz // September 27, 2008 at 6:26 pm |
I’m glad it’s back. I hadn’t realized how much I would miss it.
I’m also glad they kept the old stats.
I looked on lexulous, and hadn’t realized that I’ve played 1996 games. Don’t you get the magic key for improved tiles at 2000?
suddenly susan // September 28, 2008 at 1:56 am |
addicted to scrabble,
the site is up and running now. have fun!
fraz,
holy moly! 1996 games? you should definitely cash in those mileage points and get a free blank tile, at the very least.
Dog'sLove // September 28, 2008 at 5:03 am |
maybe someone hacked it out. Or the owner drain out cash so can’t pay hosting fee.

Does anyone know if there will be an e-mail version of lexulous, as there was with scabulous?
Chris // September 28, 2008 at 8:38 pm |
I am sad. The site is broken really. I have tried registering, as I don’t have a previous registration, and I can’t get past the front screen
Addicted to scrabble // September 28, 2008 at 8:47 pm |
The picture that you have on your site almost looked to me like CaisCais (spell) in Lisbon, but it’s not, I don’t see the hotel. I lived in Parede for 4 years in a house right on the Marginal and the beach of Parede, loved that!! it was the best of times! I used to go the market every Thursday and my hubby was stationed in Oeiras.
Thanks for the info about the site!

Woo hoo Lexulous !
And I was just starting to think I needed a life…..
fraz // September 29, 2008 at 1:06 am |
Well, I’m one of those freaks who plays one or two minute games. So, let’s see, 3000 minutes is only 50 hours. Not too bad.
suddenly susan // September 29, 2008 at 1:23 am |
terry,
i’ve not played lexulous against a computer or via email but those features do appear to exist on the current site. good luck~
suddenly susan // September 29, 2008 at 1:28 am |
jjletho,
glad you enjoyed my lisbon write-up.
it’s my pleasure to help out a lisboan and fellow scrabble fan
addicted to scrabble,
are you referring to the header photo on the home page? that’s a shot of cinque terre in italy but there seems to be a portuguese connection among readers.
suddenly susan // September 29, 2008 at 1:30 am |
fraz,
those were 50 hours well spent.
Anonymous // September 29, 2008 at 2:33 am |
susan, i can’t seem to register on the site. maybe it’s broken again.
suddenly susan // September 29, 2008 at 2:54 am |
maybe they haven’t worked out all the kinks yet?

Thanks for the useful info Susan unfortunately, I think it’s a hit and miss, sometimes it works and sometimes it don’t. I just tried going into a room and it won’t load.
suddenly susan // September 30, 2008 at 11:32 am |
jenaroni,
i played last night and noticed some rooms were empty and i thought that was because of lack of players. now i wonder if it was cuz the links weren’t working.

Thanks a bunch for the info! I live in Atl and my moms in Tx. We loved to have game night across the miles and were completely saddened when scrabulous dissapeared. Although I am sure she needed the break from me kicking her butt all of the time. Love you Mom! We are back in business.
